What Could Red Patches In Lower Leg Be With History Of Congestive Heart Failure And 3 Open Heart Surgery?

My husband has congestive heart failure and has had 3 open heart surgeries in the last 6 years. His andles and legs are swollen. The left one if extreme.. He is going to the doctor Tuesday but this morning he developed red patches on the back of his lower legs. What is this ?

Dear sir

It might be due to echymosis or bruise. let me explain it to you.

Usually patient with the history of previous heart disease, will be on antiplatelet drugs like aspirin or clopidogrel, which causes increase in the risk of bleeding.

Secondly when there is history of congestive heart failure there is sluggish venous return to the heart causing stasis of blood circulation in the peripheral blood vessels, which in turn lead to edema and increased venous engorgement.

So All these factors will cause easy bleeding and clotting in the veins especially in the lower limbs.

So my advice is to undergo bleeding time and clotting time analysis with complete blood count. Review with your cardiologist for dosages of drugs.
