Greetings! Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.
You are getting a sensation that is called
palpitation.
Extrasystoles (skipped heart beats) are nothing but premature heart beats originated from an another area of the heart muscle, not its natural pacemaker, the
sinus node. Every time this happens, sinus node immediately "takes control" of the situation and "resets" the heart electrical system, by producing a forceful heart beat, succeeding the extrasystole, which gives you this sensation.
Extrasystoles can have various origins and they can be found in every human being. They even happen in physiological circumstances, such as after physical activity, when you are undergoing psychological
stress etc. The main issue is if these are benign extrasystoles or not. This is determined by the number or amount of them during one day and, the holter rhythm monitor is a good choice, in my opinion. Even if they are more than 10.000 in one day, proper treatment should be started and these phenomena will be reduced significantly, even disappear altogether. Therefore, yes, you can wait another week, but reduce the stress and vigorous physical activity until the treatment is started, if needed.
I hope this has been of help.
Best regards,
Dr. Meriton
