Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Small Lump On Right Side Of Neck In A Teenager Indicate?
I have a 13 year old son who has a pea sized lump on the right side of his neck, toward the back. I first thought it was a bulging vein but when I touched it it was more like a ball that rolls around. It does not cause pain but has been there for a while. What could this be?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain a movable ball like lump that is of the size of pea seems to be a swollen lymph node and is commonly swollen when there is infection ongoing or recent history of infection in head and neck region or oropharyngeal infection..
In case if it is movable it is not a sign of anything serious. You should consult a Paediatrician or a General Physician and get evaluated and he can advise your son antibiotics like Amoxicillin, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and do warm compresses over the lump..
In case if it does not resolve in 2 weeks a biopsy can help in confirmation of cause..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
