Hi,

It is possible that the sore lump under the skin where you previously had an ingrown hair could be a cyst or an abscess. A cyst is a sac filled with fluid, pus, or other material that can develop under the skin. An abscess is a collection of pus that forms in a cavity or tissue of the body. Both can be caused by infections, blockages, or trauma to the skin.

If the lump is painful, red, or has increased in size, it is important to see a healthcare provider for evaluation and possible treatment. Your healthcare provider may perform a physical exam, ask you questions about your symptoms, and possibly order diagnostic tests such as imaging or a biopsy.

Treatment for a cyst or abscess may include antibiotics, drainage of the fluid or pus, or surgical removal. It is important to not try to pop or drain the lump yourself, as this can lead to further infection or complications.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
