What Could Sudden Unconsciousness With Slurred Speech Indicate?

My dad was emitted to the hospital last night by ambulance. He was unconscious. His eyes were open staring but he wasnt awake. He couldn t move or talk. Later that night he was able to talk but he slurred everything together. The nurses at the ER said it was a overdose on methadone. Alothough, his blood work showed he didn t have any methodone in his system. How is this an accurate diagnosis? I really think there is something else wrong. Please help
