What Could Swelling And Lump Under Belly Button After Piercing Indicate?

I had my belly button pierced and took it out awhile ago. But a bump, kinda like a bite, but didn t itch, showed up in my belly button. After a couple days around my piercing holes started swelling and there s a lump under it. I have no idea what it is. My friend suggested it was a hernia. But I don t know.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms can be related to an umbilical hernia. A physical examination by a surgeon is needed to confirm the diagnosis. I also recommend to do an abdominal ultrasound for further evaluation. If the diagnosis is confirmed, the treatment consists in surgery.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
