What Could Swollen, Stinging Lips With Itchy Bumps Around Them Indicate?
Hi, thank you for taking my question. I have Herpes Simplex 1. I have had a cold sore for about 5 days. It dawned on me that I have not been taking my PX for the last week, I have to pick up the PX! However, my lips are swollen and they sting. This am I woke up with itchy bumps under the cold sore spreading down, and some now are spreading up above my lip to the side of my nose! Could this also be impetigo? Thank you.
It could be of great help if you could send a picture of the rash and your swollen face and lips. The swelling in face and lips and body rash could be severe allergy reaction. However, a close examination of the rash should be made in order to rule out other pathologies including impetigo.
The infection from herpes simplex 1 is often associated with body rash typically around the oral area or inside the mouth. Plus, the patient would feel fever too. Impetigo rash starts with lips or nasal rash and can spread to arms. However, still insist in close evaluation of the rash for best diagnosis and treatment strategy.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
