What Could The Small Pea Sized Lump Above The Clitoris Area Be?

Just noticed a small pea-sized lump under the skin (red-ish-purple appearance at top of skin), a bit hard feeling, in the area of the mons pubis (maybe an inch above the area where the clitoris is located) and was curious if I should have it checked out...or wait and see if it goes away...or what? What could possible reasons for it being there be?
