What Could Twisted Ankle With Swelling Suggest?

I twisted my ankle Saturday night. I am able to walk on it again but it still swells when it is not elevated and it is purple now. I can hear a cracking noise when I walk on it. It burns when I put it in warm water to take a bath. Do I need to go and get an xray?
