What Could White Particles In The Bottom Of Tussionex Suspension Be?

I have a prescription of Tussionex Suspension prescribed 12/21/09. It appears to have small white particles in the bottom of the bottle. What is this? Could this be due to the medication being outdated? If so, would it be harmful to take a dose if needed?
