I have light pain on the left side of my throat for last 3 weeks. There is a thin whitish layer on my tongue and I ofte feel there is some powdery/chesee stuff stucked on the left side of my throat. In fact, I get this white cheese like stuff quite often in my mouth in the morning.I am not very sure what this is? Do I need to consult an ENT

Hi..
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I have gone through your query and can understand your health concerns..

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms it seems that you have a fungal infection known as Candidiasis or Thrush which is a yeast infection and it has a typical appearence of cheesy white patches over the tongue and at times throat..
It can occur due to a number of causes like Dry mouth , long term intake of certain medications like Corticosteroids, antibiotics and birth control pills, diseases like uncontrolled diabetes, HIV, cancer, hormonal changes like pregnancy and menopause, radiotherapy and chemotherapy for cancer..

At times in long untreated cases the infection can progress even to the throat and food pipe[oesophageal thrush] and cause formation of cheesy white patches along with burning sensation and pain, difficulty in swallowing and feeling of something stuck in throat..

I would suggest you to consult a dentist or an Oral pathologist and get evaluated and in case of thrush the Antifungal medications are given for a period of about 1O to 14 days..
Oral antifungal tablets like Fluconazole or Itraconazole are given..
Nystatin mouthwash can help in reducing infection..
Antifungal lozenges can provide relief..
Taking more of probiotics in diet like Yoghurts and garlic can help in clearing the fungus..
Drink plenty of cool water for hydration and preventing dry mouth and throat..

Hope this information helps..
