What Could Yellow Discharge From Areola Post Breast Feeding Suggest?

Hi Im 28 years old stopped breastfeeding 8 months ago. Since 4 days im having tonsilitis with mild fever and pain in my left breast. I started taking antibiotic yesterday. Today i noticed a yellow discharge from the areoal of my left breast. Could this be related to the tonsilits or it has to do with some blocked ducts since i stopped breastfeeding and things got triggered by the antibiotic ??

Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

I know you have tonsillitis, but there is a possibility that your fever is actually being caused by an infection in your breast. Yellow discharge may be pus coming out of an abscess inside your breast. The infection can be caused by blocked ducts and if there is an abscess it needs to be drained.

So I suggest you either see your OB doctor or midwife or a breast specialist to examine your breast to make sure there is no infection or abscess. An ultrasound of your breast can also be helpful in making the diagnosis.

I hope I was able to answer your question today and that my advice was helpful.

Best wishes,

Dr. Brown
