What Cuases Pain On The Right Side Of The Neck?

I am 77 yrs. old female with abt. 2 months of aches & pain on right side of neck. It feels like I stretched a muscle but it is not getting better. I have ME/CFS/fibromyalgia and other health problems, but do not have high BP. I m guessing a lymph gland or maybe carotid artery on R side???

Hello,

If the pain is on and off, it is unlikely it is due to the lymph node, generally, if a lymphnode is hurting in the area, you would get a swelling locally and the pain would be constant.

The carotid artery does not generally cause pain. So, it is very likely your pain is muscular in nature. Muscular pain can go on for long times if the causing agent is not avoided, for instance, if you have it due to certain movements or due to posture, then it will last till you correct them. Paracetamol and ibuprofen would be helpful for the pain and physiotherapy might help identify possible causes and correct them as well.

If the pain is not better with these or you feel a lump in the area, it might be safer to see your doctor and have an ultrasound of the neck.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
