What Do I Do To Relieve Severe Lower Back And Glute Pain While Awaiting Varicocele Surgery?

Hi there. My friend was diagnosed with varicocele and is awaiting surgery. He experiences severe pain in the lower back and glutes. Is there any way to help relieve the pain at home or tips to prevent it? Massaging helps a bit but it still interferes in his daily life. Please help. Thank you
