What Do Abnormal Cells In A Pap Smear Test Indicate?
I just turned 30 in dec 4 2014,I am 5 9 tall and I don t have any medical history with cancer but recently I did a Pap smear test and my Gyno told me one of my cells looked abnormal, which he performed colposcopy and biospy , he took 2 tinny samples and my result is not yet out, I still have no kid , should I be worried about infertility or cancer? Hi! thanks for writing to us and give me an opportunity to discuss on abnormal PAP results!
Well, PAP refers predominantly to cervix therefore pre-cancerous lesions and not infertility! I've seen few cases of abnormal PAP in below 30 women that came finally as cancer! All of the rest or 99.9% cases are normal, inflammatory , therapy/medicine related etc!
In fact at this age your PAP test must have shown some changes related to HPV infection or slight nuclear changes called ASC-US OR LSIL that necessitates a colposcopy-guided biopsy to see if these cells are due some early malignant changes or just reactive changes!
