Hello,

Unfortunately, the absence of the heartbeat in the ultrasound indicates an inviable pregnancy, thus the baby is not living. It is good to have another ultrasound to verify the findings and make sure as this is a very important diagnosis.

If the heartbeat is not present then the doctor may do D&C or may monitor you till you start to bleed (the body will eventually reject an inviable pregnancy). Sometimes it may take weeks before this happens, this is why careful monitoring is necessary to make sure you are not getting complicated with infection or coagulation problems.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
