What Do Black Stool And Pain In The Lower Abdomen Indicate?
Hi, yesterday I had a very dark black stool,,,,, and felt very tired.. slight pain in lower abdomen..... I attributed it to something I ate and/ or the very cold weather. However today, although I felt better I had another very dark black stool.... concerned about internal bleeding??.
Black stools usually indicate upper gastrointestinal bleeding. This could be from gastric erosion, a duodenal ulcer and may or may not be associated with abdominal pain. Black stools can also happen if you ingest iron supplements, and food rich in iron content. Unless you are sure it is due to such food items, it is essential that you get an upper GI Endoscopy done to rule out any G.I causes for bleed. You may please consult an Gastroenterologist at the earliest, get the upper GI Endoscopy done. Doctor may advise investigations including blood tests and stools to see for occult blood. Doctor can then advise you on the findings and management if any.
