What Do Blisters On The Fingers Indicate?

I have what looks like a blister on me finger near the nail. when pierced does not bleed out. When lanced it does not secrete any liquid. Best I can recall it started after working outside in yard and cutting / splitting wood. Thought it might be associated with scratches from thorns. But it hasn t gone away (at least 2 months) Any suggestions?
