What Do Brown Spotting After IUI Procedure Suggest?

Hello, Iam 30 years old and have a daughter of 5 years. I had an Ectopic Open surgery on 17 Jan 2014. So, i do not have the right tube now. My Gynac said my left tube is good and husbands sperm count is also good. My period date is 21 May 2015. I had my iui done on May 4 2015. Today Morning I saw brown spots. Does it mean my IUI failed. I am now very tensed. Could you please suggest if I could go for home pregnancy test or wait for more days.

Hi,

Brown discharge or spotting after IUI procedure is very common for women. It is normal and it may often happen. There is nothing to be worried at all. Such type of brown vaginal discharge may result from dislodgement of cervical mucus during IUI procedure. This is not resulted by leakage from the IUI. Such spotting is the outcome of placement of the catheter in the uterus. It will not affect on you to become pregnant.

You may notice such type of brown discharge again after few days later following your first vaginal brown discharge that is also not abnormal and common. You should abstinence yourself from any type of strenuous activities and take some extra time to rest than usual. If you think that you can become pregnant then do a pregnancy test at home and consult your doctor for further evaluation.
