What Do Cramps And Knots On The Lower Abdomen Indicate?

Hello.. I m a 35yo female with no kids i had an ectopic pregnancy about 15 years ago in which i lost my right fallopian tube. Recently i discovered my monthly cycle cramps are getting worse each month i also discovered a small knot at the bikini line area of my stomach i was wondering what could it be? I m really scared of getting more bad news but this is bothering my conscious. I appreciate your opinion. Thank you.

Hi,

The loss of fallopian tube is directly not related to the monthly cramps or presence of knot in your lower abdomen however the knot could be a hypertrophic scar which is a common occurrence, if it is in the area of incision or it could be due to the embedded absorbable suture, which would have been used while stitching up the skin. It causes the skin around the area get hypertrophied along with formation of extra tissue called granulation tissue.

You need to visit a general surgeon to get it identified and if the cause is the embedded suture then it can be removed by a minor procedure. If it is hypertrophied scar then you can avoid it as it i not recommended to get it removed surgically due to high rate of recurrence however a dermatologist can provide treatment which can minimize the size and also if it causes itching. For monthly cyclical cramps you can visit the gynecologist if you can't bear the discomfort else you can take pain killers like Meftal and also get an ultrasound done for the ovaries to rule out any ovarian cyst which is unlikely in your case.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
