What Do Cramps And Swelling Behind The Right Knee Indicate?

Hello, I m a 20 year old girl and all of a sudden I started feeling a cramping feeling in the back of my right knee. It s been about 30 minutes but it still hurts a bit to walk. The leg is swollen and there is no discoloration or warmness. I m worried. Is it a blood clot?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The leg is swollen and you have cramps, it could be due to dehydration & stress. Take plain water as well as rehydration fluids like Electral orally. For relieve from cramps you can take NSAIDS or Ibuprofen. Keep your knee at a comfortable position on a pillow. Compression bandage to support the knee may be of help, but do not tighten it too much. If you get relieve its fine. But if cramps and swelling recurs than you need to get examined. See a doctor if you have pain and difficulty in flexing your knee, Baker's cyst needs to be ruled out.

Take care.

Regards,
Dr Nupur K
