What Do Cramps In The Legs Indicate?

My husband is 73 and in good health. Just had an annual checkup and lab work was excellent. @ 7 years ago he was at risk for heart attack and has one stent. No problems since that time. However, this morning he woke up with a cramp-like pain in his foot which ultimately went away. Today he has the same kind of cramp in his upper leg/knee area. We don t know the cause. Is it possible that it could be a blood clot working its way up?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Some of the possible reasons of muscle cramps are:
-Inadequate blood supply
-Mineral depletion.
-Nerve compression.
So I dont think it can be a blood clot.
I suggest you to do a complete blood count to confirm the diagnosis.
Meanwhile it might help to drink liquids an do stretching exercises.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
