What Do Delayed Periods When On Birth Control Pills Indicate?

hi. I m on hormonal birth control pills and i take it at the exact same time each day. my boyfriend and i have had sex and he has pulled out every time even though i am on the pill. I have been taking my placebo pills for 5 days now and i still have not had a period. i am on a low dose birth control so i know missing periods happens, especially when stressed which i have been a lot because of finals and now the worry that i am pregnant. what is the chance i am pregnant?

Hello,

You are having delayed periods though you are on birth control pills. Your bf pulls out when you have sex. Since you are on birth control pills and have been taking it on time (without missing any), then you shouldn't be pregnant. However, you can wait for a couple of days and get a pregnancy test done with the first morning mid stream urine.

If pregnant get clinically examined by a gynecology. Get per vaginal examination and USG (uterus with fallopian tubes) done. You will be accordingly managed. In case you are not pregnant then the cause of delayed periods can be poor general health condition, anemia, stress, thyroid dysfunction, being underweight, overweight, sudden dietary changes, excessive exercises, PID, etc.

Get required blood tests and imaging tests done, so that the pathology causing you symptoms get treated at the earliest. In the meantime, take home made food rich in calcium, iron, magnesium and protein. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
