I have been getting depressions in my right thumb nail for sometime now, I went to my local doctor And he said it could have been tramitized as I remember injuring it over a year ago, the nail grows out with depressions, a view from the side it looks like waves. I have just noticed that my index finger on the same Hand it having the same issue? The base of two of my nails have a little bit of a reddish hue also?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Very likely the nail depressions you describe are Beau's lines which can happen from several reasons from trauma to fever (infections that cause high fever like pneumonia, measles, scarlet fever, mumps, etc) and also chronic problems like diabetes or zinc deficiency.

I would recommend you to try and take some Zinc supplements and meanwhile have a fasting sugar test to rule out diabetes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
