What Do Enlarged RBC And Platelets With Irregular Periods Suggest?
Here s a case study (of a sibling): easy bruising in August, missed period ( at some point in this time frame), unusual period - very heavy for 8 days, regular period the next cycle (but dates are not clear if it was a normal cycle). More recently - ER for blood transfusion, low RBCs, low platelets. Most recently - findings of enlarged RBC and enlarged platelets. Healthy female in upper 20s, history of irregular periods. What could be the causes? We re thinking a miscarriage?
Hi, In the current scenario, firstly, one should exclude any of the blood dyscrasias given this clinical picture. If none is found, nutritional imbalances and infections have to be excluded. Of course, the possibility of a pregnancy in recent times within a month can be excluded by performing an estimation of the serum beta-hCG titres. An ultrasound of the abdomen and the pelvis may be done to look for the status of the internal organs. Please see a physician for a complete evaluation and management. Hope this helps.
