What Do Gyration And Corticomedullary Differentiation Mean?

I has a CT Scan of the brain. Results read: There is grossly symmetric sulcation, gyration, corticomedullary
differentiation. - I understand this means to the naked eye there is equal grooving on each side, but what do gyration and corticomedullary differentiation mean?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

You have rightly interpreted that the brain grooving is being commented upon. Gyri are the the ridges and sulci are the furrows which make up the brain surface. Gyration refers to the pattern of gryi which is normal. The outer part of the brain is the cortex and the deeper areas are the medulla or white matter. Corticomedullary differentiation refers to the gray matter and white matter interface which is normal.
