What Do Headaches And Excessive Sleep In An Elderly Person Indicate?

my husband is 72 years old -- he has been sleeping most of the day -- and is a little confused when he does wake up -- he has a nose bleed that won t quit -- I have an iceberg on the back of his neck -- and he has a bad headache. He fell and broken his neck at C3 almost 2 years ago and has had problems since but this sleepiness and nose bleed is new. What could possibly be wrong?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

It is very important that your husband goes to the ER to be checked. Sleepiness and confusion are not usual symptoms and may be related to many important conditions from medication overdose to infections which need to to be considered and ruled out or quickly treated appropriately.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Antoneta Zotaj
