Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do Irregular Menstruation And Elevated Prolactin Levels Indicate?
I have been diagnosed with a microadenoma on my pitutary gland. Currently my endocrinologist does not think it is serious. He is running more tests. I have not had a normal period since September. Also, prolactin levels have shown to be high in two concurrent tests. What can I do?
I can understand your concern. In most cases pituitary micro adenoma occurs in benign form and it dont cause much affect in individuals health unless it cause pressure symptoms or cause hormonal imbalance. The tumour is a benign tumour and it responds to chemical medicinal treatment and only in some cases it requires surgery. Your prolactin came abnormally high and this is the cause of irregular menstruation in you. Drugs like Bromocriptine can help to control the prolactin levels and can reduce the growth. Please visit your doctor and get yourself checked and undergo MRI scanning with special focus on pituitary area. This will help to clearly delineate the growth and then depending upon size and clinical condition proper management can be done.
Thanks, I hope this helps. Take care
