What Do Itchy And Painful Rashes On The Toes Indicate?
Good evening I have had a rash on my toes both feet that is both very itchy and at times painful for about 2 weeks i have been using cortizone as well as itch relief ointment and tried lamisil. I am not sure what it is or what is causing this. It is worse when I wear socks . Any recommendations
There are significant challenges associated with treating athletes foot; however, it is important to understand that this is a non-life threatening condition and can be resolved in a short period of time.
Realistically, topical anti-fungals have a very low efficacy (30-50%) and the need for at least 6-12 weeks of continuous application, prior to results. Systemic/oral anti-fungals are more consistent (depending on location and severity), have a higher efficacy (70-85%). However; when prescribed systemic/oral anti-fungals, baseline liver function tests should be obtained prior to the start of therapy due to the remote possibility of developing liver disease. I would recommend seeking a foot specialist to obtain an oral prescription for an anti-fungal if topical treatment has not resolved the rash in 4-6 weeks.
Preventative measures include wearing cotton socks, changing the socks 1-2 times a day and using an OTC absorbent powder in the shoes over night. Also avoid walking barefoot in public/school showers, gyms and/or locker rooms.
