Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, a few years ago I developed an allergy to wheat products. The symptoms of the allergy is really dry skin and rashes that are very itchy, very similar to eczema. I was given a prescription to some type of steroid gel which has helped. I now avoid wheat products altogether so I don t have to use the steroid. For some reason, it s now happening again even though I m not eating wheat, and even the steroid gel isn t helping at all. Any ideas what could be causing this?
It is likely that you are allergic to some other grains or food s as well apart from wheat and that's why getting an allergic reaction. I would advise you to get a food allergy test done to determine which food items you are allergic to.
There are many tests available including skin patch test, and blood tests which help to determine food allergies. You can discuss this with your skin specialist.
Meanwhile, you can try and follow an elimination diet where you avoid eating one food product for one week and see if you can see any improvement.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma Amman
