What Do Itchy Rashes On The Body Indicate?

I have started a rash. First on my chest and then starting on the rest of my body. It is causing extreme itching., especially on my face. I am not sure that my medications are causing this. There are two medications that I think could be causing this. I tell you what they are. Cephalexin 500MG capsules twice a day. Could this be a problem?

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.





The problems/ Symptoms what you have mentioned seems to be a case of drug induced utricaria. It simply means allergy to that medicine .Many individuals have allergy to many things examples being antibiotics , pain killers , food products like fish etc. The treatment of above condition is discontinue the allergen ( drug in your case .) and start on with anti histamins like tablet Levocetrizine before sleep until allergy subsides. Additional points : If you are allergic to Cephalexin there may be high chances of you being allergic to other beta Lactamase antibiotics like Amoxicillin , and other Cephalosporins. so it is better you can undergo a skin test to these antibiotics to know whether you are allergic to this medicines or not. Questions from my side :





1. Did u had fever preceding or after the appearance of rash??


2. Any aggravating factors for this rash??
