I was working in the yard a week ago..3 days ago I noticed on both forearms red bumps..now they are blister, itchy, and on my left top forearm there is an area of about 1inch that is swollen and really red..several of the marks have circles around them..are these from ants ? I have been bitten before by red ants and felt those,,I do not remember any pain from being bitten.

Hi,

Itchy red bumps on the forearms can be caused by a variety of things, including insect bites or stings, contact dermatitis, or an allergic reaction. The presence of blisters, swelling, and circles around the bumps suggests that the cause may be an allergic reaction or a severe case of insect bites or stings.

It is possible that you were bitten or stung by an insect while working in the yard. Ant bites can cause red, itchy bumps that can sometimes become inflamed and painful. However, it is also possible that you came into contact with a plant or chemical that caused an allergic reaction or contact dermatitis.

If the bumps and other symptoms persist or worsen, it is recommended that you see a healthcare provider for a proper evaluation and treatment. They may recommend antihistamines or other medications to relieve itching and swelling or prescribe a topical ointment or cream to treat any skin irritation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
