Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My granddaughter has broken out in a rash of red itchy bumps that continue to spread. The medical providers say it is flea bites but we have had animals for years and she has been around the fleas without this reaction. She recently has visited a lake and she thought it was poison oak but it is showing up in places she would not be touchy to transfer. I think it might be chiggers. She says it is when the itchy area breaks open that it seems to spread. The bumps are very small raised with small blister the area around the bumps are red and vary in size from only a small distance around to areas of an inch or more.
If the itchy rash has been there for longer than 10 days then it is unlikely it is due to common viral causes. In this case other causes like insect bites (flee included) or scabies can be considered.Poison ivy can give a very itchy rash but is mostly in the areas that it has touched and takes a couple of weeks or more before it goes away.
I would recommend you to send her back to the doctor and discuss all these possible causes and especially scabies as a possible cause and if the doctor does not think the lesions seem typical for scabies then the flee bites can be the possible cause and she needs to take the proper attention for this.
Hope I have answered your query.
