What Do Itchy Red Rashes On The Arms And Neck Indicate?

In August 2017, I began having red patches appear on my arms. I thought it was due to my job as I am a chemist and my arms are exposed to chemical vapors sometimes. Then I noticed my neck had red blotches on it, and was EXTREMELY itchy. I thought it could be due to stress. Then in late September sometime, red blotches appeared on my trunk and shoulders. These would flare up, and then get better. It seemed they got worse with showering, so I began taking tepid showers, patting dry, moisturizing, all the things you are suppose to do if it is possibly eczema. I went to my PCP, he prescribed oral steroids, I believed they helped, but then the red blotches reappeared. I went to an allergist, found out I was severely allergic to dust mite feces, so he put me on allergy medication. That helped with the itching, but the red patches did not completely resolve. I went to a dermatologist. They prescribed a topical steroid cream, I used the entire jar of that stuff in two weeks, and the redness went away. FINALLY. But then it reappeared. I have been very meticulous with applying lotion to keep my skin from getting dry, and it doesn t seem to be as bad now, but I took another shower two days ago, and it got worse again. Also I did not mention that now my face is persistently red, and the space between my eyelids and eyebrows gets really itchy and flakes, and my face almost burns, and I have severe redness on my neck. Also, my palms seem to be very red at times. IS this going to be a chronic problem? Will I ever be able to take a hot shower again? I have done some research and have worried myself that it could be my liver, or cancer or something. Please help. There are no other symptoms, no fever, no fatigue, no pain, no edema, no headaches, only the red skin, face, and palms. Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms seem to be related to an allergic reaction.
If you are allergic to an allergen it can be chronic,so you will have the same symptoms any time that you have contact with this allergen.
Some advice that I can give are:
-take antihistamines daily
-use calmine lotion for local relief

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
