What Do Light Brown Spots On Lower Spine Indicate?

My daughter has had light brown spots on her lower spine for over a year now, doesn t complain of any pain and doesn t seem to bother her when I touch that area. The area never gets any darker or lighter than it has been for a while. What could this be?

Hi,

I can understand your concern for light brown spots on lower spine.

In my view it appears to be related to freckles. These are due to activity of melanocytes which form melanin more rapidly after exposure to sunlight on both exposed and unexposed areas. In susceptible individuals few seconds of sun exposure is sufficient to produce higher colour.

Therefore on exposure to sunlight freckles are formed as small spots of hyperpigmentation, usually measuring 2–4 mm in size. You should not be worried about these spots. But is if at all you feel any colour change or any burning, itching or pain along with increase in size of the pigmented area then can meet a dermatologist for best guidance.

Take care.
