Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do Lumps On The Left Side Of The Neck Indicate?
I HAVE TWO ALMOND SIZE LUMPS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY NECK. ONE IS JUST AT THE BASE OF MY SKULL AND THE OTHER IS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY SPINE. NEITHER ARE VERY PAINFUL AT ALL. SLIGHTLY TENDER LIKE A MILD BRUISE BUT OTHERWISE JUST RANDOM AND THE ONE AT THE BASE OF MY SKULL HAS BEEN THERE OVER A WEEK THE ONE ON MY NECK I JUST NOTICED AND I FEEL LIKE POPPED UP JUST TODAY
The lumps may be enlarged lymph nodes, these are one of the most common lesions that can be found in the neck.
They occur as a result of an infection or inflammation in the area (e.g. allergies or trauma). You may need to be assessed to determine the reason that they have occurred for you.
This would involve a physical examination and blood tests (complete blood count and ESR - this looks for inflammation in the body).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
