What Do My Liver Test Results Indicate?

Hello, I m a 32 yr old male, 224 lbs (down from 245 three months ago), normal health except some elevated blood pressure which I m working in reducing with lifestyle changes. Prior to three weeks ago, I was a daily drinker (about 3 a day). Always went for an annual physical and this past time my AST was 39 and ALt was 98. Two weeks no alcohol, AST climbed a little to 41, and ALT dropped slightly to 94. Going to wait for additional tests to rule out any viruses, but, as usual, I m nervous about this since I am no where near being knowledgable in this subject area. I have read numerous things online but few have the levels I do. So, I m asking your thoughts as to what could be causing this. One thing I should mention, my mother has NAFLD - could this be hereditary? Appreciate your help and thank you in advance!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

NAFLD is not a hereditary disease. Your disturbed liver enzyme levels may be due to some liver pathology. It may be due to alcohol also (Alcoholic liver disease). Definitely chronic viral infections should be ruled out. You are also advised to take care of your B.P. It should be controlled at priority.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
