Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do Pain And Numbness In The Fingers Indicate?
I started taking meloxicam in June or July... it works great for leg pain I was having. However on November 12, 2017 I woke up with numbness, tingling, and pain in my fingers and most of all in my feet. My Dr. Thinks it s possible it was the Antibuse I asked to be put on, so it s been a week off of that. I haven t drank since July. Im not an alcoholic per say. I just took that to prevent my urge to drink. So the meloxicam and blood pressure med (lowest dose) is all I m currently taking. My blood sugars are fine too, so I know it s not diabetic neuropathy. Tonight my pain is through the roof and I just keep looking for answer...
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Hand numbness is usually caused by damage, irritation or compression of one of the nerves or a branch of one of the nerves in your arm and wrist.Diseases affecting the peripheral nerves, such as diabetes, also can cause numbness, although with diabetes similar symptoms usually occur first in your feet. However, your symptoms indicate that there is compressive neuropathy which is seen in carpal canal syndrome or cubital syndrome. You need to do EMG first to confirm diagnosis and then it can be treated with local steroid shots or surgical decompression. Also, physical therapy may be beneficial.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
