What Do Pain And Numbness On The Left Thigh Indicate?

I ve had left outer thigh pain - burning, numbness, sudden shooting pain when sitting too long or walking at times. One MD mentioned it might be fasciitis- I also have some residual neuropathy post chemo in 2014. I m looking so some guidance as to what may possibly be causing this so I can see the right specialist. Also have osteoarthritis in that knee and wondering if the strain on surrounding tissues to compensate might contribute to this??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms you have mentioned that sudden shooting pain in thigh, burning and numbness point towards a diagnosis of sciatica. It occurs due to compression of the sciatic nerve. It can be diagnosed with the help of an MRI of the spine.

Osteoarthritis in one knee may be a contributing factor as you must be leaning on the opposite knee leading to bad posture.

I would advise you to get yourself checked by an orthopaedic surgeon. If diagnosis is confirmed you may have to take Gabapentin or Pregablin drug to relieve the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nazma Amman
