What Do Pain And Tingling Sensation In The Hands Indicate?

7 months ago I started having pain in both hands, pins and needles, numbness, stinging. Since pain is now in both feet, same type pain, pins and needles, burning. Walking extremely difficult. Very fatigued now noticing trouble urinating. I went from being an active nurse,to barely able to walk, unable to hold anything in my hands, can’t drive. I have had 5 cervical surgeries with the last being played and screws. Recent mylegram showed problem not cervical. Now I am being told it may be auto immune, the pain is so bad can’t sleep or eat. On neurontin, steroids, not helping at all. Any suggestions what can be going on? Was told dx could take months or more! Any suggestions please am desperate.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There are autoimmune causes of neuropathy (abnormal function of the nerves). Blood tests such as complete blood count, ESR and specific screens for autoimmune conditions can be done to find out if any are present. It may be best to see a rheumatologist for assessment and treatment if the neurologist has ruled out other causes.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
