What Do Prolonged Stomach Pain, Blood In Stools With White And Moldy Stools Suggest?

I have been having stomach pains for two years now. Sometimes there is blood when I poop. Sometimes it just looks like mucus, like I was blowing my nose. Recently my stool has been white and moldy looking. I feel sick every time I eat, and I can t go to the bathroom when I feel like it. My doctor thought I was lactose intolerant, and the medicine helped for a few weeks, but then it just made me sicker. Any ideas what is wrong with me?

Hi,

The symptoms you describe, including prolonged stomach pain, blood in stools, white and moldy stools, and feeling sick after eating, can be indicative of several underlying medical conditions. Some possible causes include:
* Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD): IBD refers to a group of chronic conditions that cause inflammation in the digestive tract. These include Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Symptoms of IBD can include abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloody stools, and weight loss.
* Colorectal cancer: Blood in the stool is one of the most common signs of colorectal cancer. Other symptoms can include abdominal pain, weight loss, and changes in bowel habits.
* Pancreatic insufficiency: Pancreatic insufficiency occurs when the pancreas is unable to produce enough enzymes to properly digest food. This can cause malabsorption, leading to symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and fatty, foul-smelling stools.
* Liver disease: White and moldy-looking stools can be a sign of liver disease, such as hepatitis or cirrhosis. Other symptoms of liver disease can include abdominal pain, nausea, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes).

Given the severity and duration of your symptoms, you must seek medical attention as soon as possible. Your doctor may recommend a series of tests, including blood tests, stool tests, and imaging studies, to help diagnose the underlying cause of your symptoms. Treatment options will depend on the underlying cause but may include medications, dietary changes, and/or surgery.
