General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

When there is a history of coughing which is worse at night, asthma or GERD need to ruled out.
Asthma , particularly, would need to be considered first since this is the most dangerous of the two. It tends to cause coughing that is worse at night or in the early morning in some cases.

Her doctor should consider investigating her for one of these conditions.

I hope this helps
