Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
5 days ago I had a rash on both my forearms while playing golf in Hawaii. It seeemed to be a heat rash and mostly disappeared, reappearing slightly over the next few days when working out. 2 days ago I started taking doxyclicine for rosacea on my face and this morning the rash on my forearms is worse then ever and there is a rash on my legs, it is the most intense between my bicep and forearm and around my knee. Could this be from the doxycline (acticlate) and should I go to urgent care?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Yes, it can be an allergic reaction to doxycycline but in case if the rashes appear only. If you are outdoor in sun then it can also be due to heat rash.
If the rash is present all the time and not only when you go out then it can be due to an allergic reaction to the antibiotic. So, for now, you can take anti allergic medicine like Benadryl and apply Calamine or Caladryl lotion. You can also do cool compresses for relief.
In case if the symptoms recur you should consult an Allergist and get checked. An allergy test can be done for further confirmation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
