What Do Rashes On The Lower Back Indicate?

I have several bites, I think, which look like a small rash in my lower right back that I think is causing me a lot of discomfort. It has lasted a week. The pain is from my front abdomen and extends around the back. The pain is similar to muscle stiffness after a hard workout. It is more prominent after I have slept

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Considering the fact that you have a rash looking like bites in your lower right back and this is causing you pain, in my opinion, this might be shingles (herpes zoster infection). Herpes zoster is an infection caused by varicella-zoster virus (the same virus that causes chickenpox), and it is an reactivation of the virus in patients that have passed chickenpox infection in childhood. However this infection should be confirmed clinically, and you should visit a doctor to confirm the diagnosis by performing a physical examination. He might prescribe you antiviral therapy(acyclovir orally), anti inflammatory treatment for pain relief, antiviral ointment for local use. You should not ignore this condition because the pain may persist for months after this episode and it needs to be treated properly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Suela Gjata
