What Do Recurring Abscesses In The Groin Area Of A Diabetic Indicate?

I was diagnosed with type2 diabetes after reporting to my doctor with a large abcess on my inner thigh which fully drained. during the draining process, a large area around the drainage was hard..like a clot. it eventually went away and the process repeated itself many times over the next 10 years with the abcess moving closer and closer to my genitals. eventually, my scrotum got one and swelled to the size of a coconut. same thing happened, abcess drained, large area around abcess felt very heard like a clot, and went away after draining. this happened about 5-6 times over a 3 year period. it has now been 2 years since the last one, but the drainage has never really stopped. under my scrotum, from time to time, it bleeds and drains a pinkish fluid with no large abcess, but small lumps are felt under the skin.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
welcome to the HCM
Dear Thankyou for asking here.As first of all D.M (diabetes mellitus) has to be controlled. And in case there is uncontrolled blood sugar level ,it may cause delayed healing process in any infection.Since Abscess could be sign of bacterial infection. And compared to normal people ,diabetic person tends to get long period to heal any infection. And recurrent abscess may indicate underlined untreated infection with uncontrolled blood sugar level.
I would suggest get C/S (culture) of blood and abscess swab culture to know the sensitive antibiotic for particular infection.
Regards,
Dr.Maheshwari
