What Do Recurring Painful Lumps Under The Tongue And Throat Suggest?

I have a ball type thing on the part that connects the underneath of my tongue to the bottom of my mouth. The ball is enlarged and hurts. The left side of my throat (the same side that the ball is on) also hurts and has a very large ball in it. the ball in my throat is so large that you can actually see it from the outside on my neck. This whole thing has been on & off for about 3 years and it happens every few months, but today it just has been happening on & off, frequently. It usually gets bad when I eat/drink things that are tart/sour, such as sprite and pickles. What might this be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You are likely to have a throat infection or pharyngitis. Tonsillitis and fever should also be ruled out. A direct ENT examination is required for further management. Antibiotics steam inhalation and Betadine mouth gargling will reduce the symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
