What Do Red Pimples Above The Lips Indicate?

I have a skin complaint that came about 2 months ago - there are 5 pimple-like spots which are just above my lip - they follow the shape of my top lip and they are not itchy but at the side of the last pimple is a small red, dry patch which is itchy. I have had daktarin and hydrocortisone ointment prescribed by 2 different doctors and neither are working. Have you any ideas what it could be? Thankyou

Hi,

The spots can be due to Fordyce's spots that can be hypertrophy of the sebaceous glands or oil glands that are present in abundance in that area. They are harmless however if large in size then they might be unsightly.

However, a clinical examination is always a must to confirm the diagnosis. In case if it is Fordyce's spots then laser removal can be done. For the dry itchy patch applying steroid ointment and emollient like petroleum jelly can help in improvement.
