What Do Red Spots On Lips Indicate?

Hello, I am a 20 year old female who is not and has never been sexually active. I have red spots/bumps (it varies) on my lips occasionally. The first time, it hurt like my lip was burnt, and from there on, they are painless and do not itch. What could it be?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain red spots on lips can be due to a number of reasons like it can be due to viral infection caused by Herpes simplex virus 1 causing cold sores.
It can have recurrent episodes and bumps can appear and heal itself and then can appear again..

It can also be due to infection caused by bacteria when you are exposed to infected lip products, towels, glasses or direct contact with the sores..

It can also be due to some known or unknown allergies..

It can also be due to excessive sun exposure causing sun blisters..

I would suggest you to consult a dermatologist and get evaluated..

If it is due to herpes oral and topical acyclovir therapy can help in preventing outbreaks as antiviral medicine cannot prevent the disease from happening and can only prevent outbreaks..

In case of bacterial infection avoid sharing lip products with others as well as apply antiseptic cream over the sores..

Always apply SPF 15 containing lip balm before going into sun.
Cover the lips with a scarf when into sun.

For preventing allergies use lip products with low chemical content..

Hope this information helps..
