What Do Redness And Liquid Drainage From Wound Suggest?

I had a small growth removed a week ago. It was caterised. I am having a slight oozing of clear liquid with a small amount of pus on the outer edges of the wound. Is this normal? The redness is slight and it doesn t hurt. It s not warm to the touch either. Do I need an antibiotic? I am diabetic taking only Metformin. Blood sugar is good while on Metformin. I am 70 years old and very healthy. Thanks

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Oozing out of clear fluid from wound can occur after cauterization. However, oozing out of pus may indicate infection. I suggest you to consult your surgeon for clinical assessment and thus management.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
