What Do Redness And Swelling Under The Eyes Indicate?

I woke up this morning with redness in the corner of my left eye and swelling under the eye. I had cataract surgery in June and skin cancer removed from my forehead earlier in the week. The swelling under the eye seems to be getting larger during the day. What should I be concerned about?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have redness and swelling under the eyes . Well there can be many reasons for dark spots under eyes like deprivation of sleep , water retention , excessive exposure to sun and fatigue . The symptoms can also cause by some serious complication of surgery so also consult your surgeon and talk about it. But in your case it seems to me that probable reason for dark spots is post inflammatory hyper pigmentation . I would suggest you to wash your face with face wash containing benzoyl peroxide twice a day and then apply cream containing azelaic acid which is a cereal extract and totally safe for use . Also apply vitamin E oil before going to bed and keep cucumber pieces on eyes for 15 minutes daily . If condition doesn't get better in a month then consult dermatologist for proper examination and rule out other causes .
